Tired Of Street Flooding In New Orleans?
Blog -
Monday, 20 August 2012 13:55

ffmeet Tired of street flooding in New Orleans? Then, come on out to one of Mayor Landrieu’s joint City Council Budget meetings and let him know that you are ready for a flood-free New Orleans. Over $2 billion dollars will soon be spent to improve drainage in New Orleans, and it can be used to increase our natural lines of defense against flooding. Investment in an integrated stormwater management plan can help retain, safely store, and naturally filter water before it is drained to Lake Pontchartrain and surrounding wetlands. The Mayor is convening the public sessions to hear from the public as to budget priorities.  These sessions are an excellent opportunity to promote use of the City's $250MM in Hazard Mitigation funds and other available resources and opportunities for improvements to the city’s stormwater management system. The latest green technologies, like raingardens and pervious roads, can prevent flooding by slowing drainage, safely storing and filtering water, thus minimizing the burden on the city’s system. Canals can be transformed into beautiful public spaces that hold water while contributing to a higher quality of life. Detailed plans have been created for New Orleans to better live with water and become flood-free, and now it’s time to implement. For more information on the City's available resources and opportunities, please read my recent post about GRN’s Flood-Free New Orleans campaign. Please plan on attending one of the remaining meetings and be sure to let the Mayor and Council members here from you that:
