Huge thanks everyone who participated in the Defend the Gulf Short Film Showcase competition! We had some great submissions this year covering a number of different Gulf environmental issues – from the Dead Zone to wetlands loss to the BP oil disaster.
Alas, there can only be one winner per category, so without further ado . . .

Congratulations! Winners and runner-ups, along with other selected submissions, have been included in the Defend the Gulf Short Film Showcase DVD that is being distributed to volunteers across the country who are hosting screenings to help raise awareness and inspire action for a healthy Gulf!
You can still sign up to host a screening event in your community to show the films and spread the stories of the Gulf. Screenings are really fun, and we make it easy for you by providing all the materials and support you need.
Also, the premiere of the Defend the Gulf Short Film Showcase is this Friday, September 28 in New Orleans! We’ve teamed up with the Timecode:NOLA FF:ONE Film Festival to show the films, and you’re invited.
Defend the Gulf Short Film Showcase (followed by Timecode:NOLA Super 8 One REEL Contest, and music by Consortium of Genius) One-Eyed Jacks Friday, September 28 at 8pm $8 Cover Charge
GRN staff will be on hand to help you take action for the Gulf, and we hope some of the filmmakers can make it as well to answer questions and talk about their work.
Another big thanks to everyone who submitted a short film, and congratulations to our winners! Winners will receive over $1,000 worth of prizes including LOA Weekend Passes to Voodoo Experience music festival in New Orleans and Aveda products.
