HAPPY ARBOR DAY!!

The Save Our Cypress Campaign Arbor Day of Action was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who got out there to put pressure on Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Lowe’s to make them stop selling cypress mulch.

From Austin to Tampa, lots of people were waiving signs and delivering letters. Folks in Sarasota did great street theatre and got some awesome press coverage. The New Orleans event (above) was a blast! The manager of the Wal-Mart that coalition members visited in Baton Rouge called afterwards to tell them never to come back.

Well, there’s an easy way to ensure we’ll never come back: stop selling cypress mulch. A day of action is the first step to make that happen, so now we’ve got to keep the pressure on.

There are folks all throughout the Gulf who are working to tell their friends and neighbors about the issue and asking them to sign postcards to the CEO’s of Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, and Home Depot. Others are writing LTE’s and contacting their local media. There are lots of ways to get involved.

We’ve got some more exciting stuff coming up too, so keep your eyes open for an awesome video short that you can share with friends to learn about the dangers of cypress mulch and take action (and get a good laugh!). As always, we’ll keep you up-to-date on any big news on the campaign, and you should feel free to do the same by emailing me at dan@healthygulf.org.

Thanks for supporting a healthy Gulf!

Dan Favre is the GRN's Campaign Organizer.
