Off-shore Wind Power

Open Ocean Wind Turbine

In 2004, a Stanford study showed great potential for off-shore wind energy production just off the mouth of the Mississippi in the Gulf of Mexico.  Given the Gulf's leadership in energy development off all types, and the amount of energy infrastructure in the area already, many expected the Gulf to begin to lead the nation in wind development.

Despite some promising efforts by local entreupeneurs, little has happened yet.

A Stanford wind study, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research is available on the Stanford website here:  http://www.stanford.edu/group/efmh/winds/2004jd005462.pdf
