Red Snapper, Chronically Depleted, Gets Plan

Red Snapper in the Gulf of MexicoPrompted into action by our federal lawsuit, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Managment Counil has finished a rule that will put Gulf red snapper on a rebuilding track. To learn more about the problem, visit our press release on the issue. For a little more of our perspective on the issue, read our blog post on the victory.

The GRN advocates sustainable fisheries management through catch levels based on sound science, the protection of habitats essential to healthy marine fish populations, and the assessment and minimization of incidental killing of marine life in the process of catching a target species (bycatch). The GRN accomplishes these tasks through direct advocacy and education to create the conservation voice necessary for proper management of this public resource.
