Oil and Gas Accountability Internship (New Orleans based)

Oil and Gas Accountability Campaign

BP's oil drilling disaster has added another grave threat to wetlands already endangered by the activity of the oil and gas industry.  As an Oil and Gas Accountaiblity Intern, you can help the GRN hold the oil and gas industry accountable for the significant role it has played in the destruction of Louisiana’s wetlands. Oil and gas companies are responsible for 40-60% of Louisiana’s wetlands loss, so far more than 2,000 square miles in just the last 100 years.  Help make them pay their fair share to restore wetlands that are critical to the cultures and economies of the Gulf Coast.

As an Oil and Gas Acccountability Intern you will learn valuable grassroots organizing and public advocacy skills, including

Media Outreach

  • Use local media, through news releases, media events, LTE’s, and op-eds, to raise campaign visibility
  • Develop messaging to best educate the public on the oil and gas industry's role in our coastal crisis

Materials Development

  • Produce stickers, fliers, posters, online media, and other creative materials crucial for building public awareness
Direct Pressure on Oil and Gas companies like BP and Shell
  • Organize local protests at opportunistic events, like speeches by corporate executives
  • Collect post-cards and emails to pressure corporations to fix the coast
  • Hold local demonstrations, brochure hand-outs, etc. at retail outlets
  • Expand a coalition of groups working together to hold the oil and gas industry accountable

Fall internships require a 10-hour per week commitment.  Positions are unpaid.  Academic credit is available.
