Position Title: Communications Associate Reports to: Communications Director
Status: Part-time/Temporary/ Non-Exempt Salary: $10-12/hour based on experience
3 months at 20 hrs/week
Location: New Orleans, LA or telecommute
The Communications Associate will play a key role to bolster program communication efforts in social media, earned media and outreach. Utilizing creative approaches to action-oriented communication, this position is integral in uniting and empowering people to protect and restore the natural resources of the Gulf Region.
The Communications Associate will help implement and track a coordinated communications plan across all programs and campaigns.
Responsibilities will include:
Write and edit articles for the GRN newsletter, e-newsletter, and blog
Draft and edit copy for GRN outreach materials
Maintain GRN brand standards in all communications
Curate and schedule non-time sensitive content for all social media channels one week in advance of release (due every Friday)
Help to post time sensitive content as needs arise
File all GRN created content in Content Library and organize it for easy access in the future
Help establish long term Google AdWords campaign to increase hits to our website
Set up editorial board meetings for GRN campaigns
Assist in organizing and conducting media events and press conferences
Write letters-to-the-editor, press releases, and news advisories
Document and catalogue GRN’s media hits for use on the web, in grant reports, and for outreach
Help maintain GRN's media list for distributing news releases
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree OR equivalent relevent experience in public relations and marketing, proficiency in Word, Excel, Google Docs, and some experience in the area of environmental science, policy, advocacy or other relevant fields.
