SUMMARY:Public Comments Close on Oil & Gas 5 Year Plan
DESCRIPTION:The federal government announced a new federal offshore drilling plan to allow more oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and other sensitive waters across America. \nThis dramatic expansion of drilling puts the Gulf’s beaches\, coastal economy\, seafood industry and wildlife at risk of another catastrophic oil spill like the 2010 BP disaster. Not one more inch along our coastlines should be given over to the oil industry. Take action today to tell federal agencies and elected officials to hold the line and protect the Gulf from offshore drilling. \nComments can be submitted here until January 23\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Seafood in Your Community: The Domestic Seafood Production Act
DESCRIPTION:The Domestic Seafood Production Act: Prioritizing sustainable seafood in your community \nWhen: Wednesday\, November 13\, 2024  6:00 pm CDT/7:00 pm EDT \nWhere: online through zoom—register here \nJoin us to learn more about new federal legislation that looks to enhance local\, sustainable seafood while blocking the expansion of the type of offshore fish farms that have caused a range of negative issues in coastal waters worldwide. Through competitive grants\, the Domestic Seafood Production Act (DSPA) would fund a variety of eligible community development projects to support the processing of local wild seafood and mariculture—the growing of shellfish and aquatic plants. The Act also aims to protect the health of our oceans by prohibiting Federal agencies from permitting\, authorizing\, or facilitating offshore fish farms in U.S. Federal waters without an act of Congress.  \nOur presenter is James Mitchell\, Legislative Director\, Don’t Cage Our Oceans. Mr. Mitchell is an environmental attorney and advocate with 15 years of experience in working to protect our oceans and all who depend on it. Don’t Cage Our Oceans is a coalition of 55 nonprofit organizations working to stop offshore fish farming while uplifting values-based seafood systems led by local communities.  \nFor more information or questions please contact Florida – Alabama Coastal Organizer Christian Wagley: christian@healthygulf.org or (850) 687-9968.
