DESCRIPTION:The Domestic Seafood Production Act: Prioritizing sustainable seafood in your community \nWhen: Wednesday\, November 13\, 2024  6:00 pm CDT/7:00 pm EDT \nWhere: online through zoom—register here \nJoin us to learn more about new federal legislation that looks to enhance local\, sustainable seafood while blocking the expansion of the type of offshore fish farms that have caused a range of negative issues in coastal waters worldwide. Through competitive grants\, the Domestic Seafood Production Act (DSPA) would fund a variety of eligible community development projects to support the processing of local wild seafood and mariculture—the growing of shellfish and aquatic plants. The Act also aims to protect the health of our oceans by prohibiting Federal agencies from permitting\, authorizing\, or facilitating offshore fish farms in U.S. Federal waters without an act of Congress.  \nOur presenter is James Mitchell\, Legislative Director\, Don’t Cage Our Oceans. Mr. Mitchell is an environmental attorney and advocate with 15 years of experience in working to protect our oceans and all who depend on it.
