For the past seven years GRN has worked with the Mississippi River Collaborative to get limits on nitrogen and phosphorus pollution, reduce the size of the Dead Zone, and generally fight for cleaner and healthier waters and wetlands in the Mississippi River Basin. Just this week, Matt and Andrew at GRN attended a three day meeting with the Collaborative, sharing strategies with some of the biggest brains in the field of water policy. The Mississippi River was called an orphan by the National Academy of Sciences, and we are trying to get states and the federal government to take responsibility for it. Changing these policies takes a long time, but with the Collaborative, we have made great strides in cleaning up the lakes and rivers in the Mississippi River basin.Check out this video to learn just a little bit about the Collaborative.
