The Ascend Performance Materials Nylon Plant in Cantonment, FL is Florida’s largest source by far of industrial discharges. Public hearing on this discharge is set for Oct. 12th.
The Ascend Nylon Plant in Cantonment, Florida discharges around 20 million pounds annually of Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) chemicals, far more than any other facility in FL and placing it 13th nationally in TRI discharges. The discharge is injected underground through a system of wells that must pass through the region’s drinking water supply, and has been occurring daily for the last 60 years. The permit allowing this discharge is up for renewal by the FL Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and a public hearing has been set for Oct. 12.
