There are 22 species of endangered marine life in the Gulf of Mexico, and they are under attack by the Trump administration. Back in March, the Endangered Species Committee of the federal government acted on a request from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to exempt the oil and gas industry from any responsibility to protect endangered species in the Gulf. With offshore drilling operations a leading threat to many marine species, this historic and deeply unpopular decision puts manatees, sea turtles, Rice’s whales and others in immediate peril.

To overturn this action, the Protect Gulf Life Act has been introduced in Congress. This legislation would restore desperately needed protections for Gulf wildlife under the Endangered Species Act, which is strongly supported by Americans.
