Save the Date: Endangered Species Day of Action
May 16
Healthy Gulf is working with national partners and allies along the Gulf coast to organize a series of rallies to support endangered species in the Gulf. This comes after the federal Endangered Species Committee granted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s request to exempt oil and gas drilling in the Gulf from having to protect endangered Gulf wildlife.
This unprecedented and deeply unpopular decision puts over 20 species of Gulf wildlife at immediate risk of harm and even extinction. That’s five species of sea turtle, corals, sawfish, Gulf sturgeon and many others. The Rice’s whale could face imminent extinction from this action, as fewer than 100 whales remain and the government’s own reports label offshore drilling as a major threat to the whales that could cause their extinction without immediate protection actions.
Rallies are planned on May 16 along the Gulf from the FL Keys to TX, with Healthy Gulf having a lead organizing roles in events in Pensacola Beach, FL, AL and New Orleans. Events will include speakers, live music, education, art activities and more. Please check our website and follow our social media to get the latest on an event near you.
