Keep Offshore Drilling Away from Florida

Florida’s white sand beaches and blue-green waters are under attack. The federal government just announced a new federal offshore drilling plan to open more oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and other sensitive waters across America. The plan calls for a staggering 34 lease sales for oil and gas over five years, and would bring drilling into the eastern Gulf near Florida where it has never been allowed before. This Plan opens 19.98 million acres of Florida waters to drilling – about the size of South Carolina (20.49 million acres) and a little less than half the size of Florida (42.08 million acres).

This dramatic expansion of drilling puts Florida’s beaches, coastal economy, and wildlife at risk of another catastrophic oil spill like the 2010 BP Oil Spill Disaster. Healthy Gulf’s stance is that not one more inch along our coastlines should be given over to the oil industry. Offshore drilling is a dirty and dangerous business that has no place near Florida. Take action today to tell federal agencies and elected officials to hold the line and protect FL from offshore drilling!
