Request LDEQ Hold a Public Hearing on Methanol Emissions

At the end of October 2025, Lake Charles Methanol II submitted an application for a modification to its already existing Title V operating permit. This modification is looking to increase the permitted amount of emissions. Lake Charles Methanol II is now hoping to increase their emissions of nitrogen oxides from 8.2 to 76.18 tons per year, and emissions of volatile organic compounds from 24.1 to 91.78 tons per year.

With this permit modification, Lake Charles Methanol II has not requested to have a public hearing, believing that public input is not necessary for a “minor modification.” With the amount of their volatile organic compound emissions hitting very close to 100 tons per year, this becomes a threat to public health, safety and wellbeing.
