Defending Science, Protecting Communities: Perspectives, Lessons, and Leadership from Frontline Communities

Date: Tuesday, December 17, 2025 (tentative)
Time: 6:00–8:30 PM
Venue: Sidecar NOLA – Warehouse District Patio & Oyster Bar (tentative)

Environmental research, regulatory agencies, and community organizations are facing unprecedented challenges in today’s political climate. Community-based scientists, advocates, and researchers who expose environmental injustices often face intimidation, funding cuts, and institutional barriers. Yet, frontline communities have long persisted—using science, data, and advocacy to fight for health, safety, and justice.

This interactive panel brings together scientists, legal experts, and community leaders to discuss how we can defend truth and transparency in science, elevate community knowledge, and build durable alliances between research institutions and those living on the frontlines of environmental harm.

Confirmed and Invited Panelists:

  • Moderator: Jane Patton (CIEL)
  • Kim Terrell (Environmental Integrity Project, former Tulane scientist)
  • Caitlion Hunter (Rise St. James)
