KATHERINE T. “KATHY” EGLAND

Katherine T. “Kathy” Egland is the co-founder of the Education, Economics, Environmental, Climate and Health Organization (EEECHO). She is also a member of the NAACP National Board of Directors, where she currently chairs the Environmental and Climate Justice Committee. In addition to serving on the board of Healthy Gulf, she is also Chairman of the Board of the Chislom Legacy Project. As a resident of the climate vulnerable Mississippi Gulf Coast, she is a survivor of one of the worst climate disasters in American history-Hurricane Katrina; as well as one of the world’s worst man-made environmental disasters- the BP oil spill, which contaminated the Mississippi Gulf Coast waters a few blocks of her home. She lost two of her dearest family friends to drowning deaths during Hurricane Katrina. These devastating events changed the trajectory of her lifelong civil rights advocacy.
