This October 11, was GRN’s Annual Fall Benefit and it was a huge success! Graciously hosted by Chef Susan Spicer and the staff of Mondo, there was live music from the local duo Tangiers Combo (musicians Eric Rodriguez and Carl Keith) for all to enjoy as we socialized, sipped and dined. Mondo’s chef, Susan Spicer, and Bacchanal’s, Joaquin Rodas, catered the event with delicious appetizers, small plates and entrees, followed by dessert from Chef Megan Roen of Gracious Bakery. The silent auction brought in over twenty items from local artists, businesses and restaurants, with continuous bidding all evening and a few hot-ticket items. Antonia Juhasz, an investigative journalist, award-winning writer, and an oil and energy expert was our fantastic keynote speaker. Antonia shared stories about her submarine trip to the blowout site of the Macondo well as well as interviews with Alaskan natives dealing with the threat of Shell’s Arctic drilling plans. Through these stories, she related the importance of organizing and exposing the truth, from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico all the way up to Alaska. We are so thankful to all of the GRN members who joined us this weekend, and to all of the auction donors and the staff of Mondo for making such a great night possible! You can view photos of the entire night on our flickr page!
