Recently, we joined with a number of conservation partners in calling for the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to take all possible steps to protect Gulf birds that have been in impacted by BP’s oil drilling disaster. For some time now, we’ve been receiving reports of BP cleanup crews negatively impacting nesting areas, crushing eggs, and endangering fledglings. This is completely unacceptable! Cleanup and recovery crews should be out there doing good, not causing more harm to fragile Gulf wildlife. In our joint letter to USFWS, we call for better protections for Gulf birds, increased efforts to rescue and rehabilitate abandoned fledglings, improved reporting of oiled birds, and better study of the long-term impacts on birds oiled by BP’s drilling disaster. Check out the full letter here, then send your own message to USFWS and others asking that they protect Gulf wildlife, not BP.Raleigh Hoke is GRN’s Mississippi Organizer
