Healthy Gulf announces Executive Director search

Join our nearly 30-year-old nonprofit as we collaborate with and serve communities who love the Gulf of Mexico by providing the research, communications, and coalition-building tools needed to reverse the long pattern of over-exploitation of the Gulf’s natural resources.

Healthy Gulf is excited to seek applicants for the organization’s Executive Director. This hybrid position will preferably be based in New Orleans, but Healthy Gulf will consider exceptional candidates who live along the Gulf Coast and are comfortable with hybrid in-office work.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

If you are passionate about leading an organization that serves as a principal environmental nonprofit fighting for the health, safety, and environmental justice of the most significantly impacted communities on the Gulf Coast, this opportunity should attract your attention.

Coming in on the heels of the recently retired, highly successful, founding Executive Director, you would have the opportunity to take Healthy Gulf to its next level of success as it approaches its thirty years of service. As the Executive Director, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic, dedicated staff, and with a board of directors who are there to empower the Executive Director and the organization in its entirety. Many important relationships are already in place; the next leader can use the momentum to build an even more effective and impactful organization.

A major threat to the health of the citizens and the environment in the region is the continuing influence and power of the oil and gas and petrochemical industries at the highest level of Louisiana and Texas governments. Combatting this, Healthy Gulf is well established as a major convener bringing community organizers, other nonprofits, legal representatives, and funders together to push for a different vision.

There is an opportunity to accelerate and shape a transition from dirty fossil fuels to clean energy in the Gulf. Healthy Gulf is one of the primary groups in the region at the forefront of that transition, and the Executive Director will have the opportunity to drive that change. The future of the Gulf Coast is hanging in the balance and the timing is critical. If you are driven to change its prospects, this is an organization that is a major player in steering to a better tomorrow.

COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, & ACCESS:

We will continue to have an organizational culture that values people of all experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives, and is based on respect, inclusiveness, integrity, honesty and anti-oppression. Further, we will act as allies to communities of color in the Gulf Coast and use these values to ensure that marginalized and oppressed communities receive our attention and services when confronted with environmental justice issues.
